Mill Bay – Live in the Real Scenery
Today, the scenic view from Mill Bay rivals anything on Vancouver Island. On a clear day Mt. Baker dominates the skyline; a truly impressive monument to Mother Nature! Just as the rest of the Island, the weather is lovely; warm and dry in summers and mild winters. Snowfall, if it occurs, is minimal.

Mill Bay is the site of the ferry to Brentwood Bay offering those aboard a chance to take in beautiful views of Vancouver Island. Warm waters around Mill Bay make it favorable for outdoor pursuits such as kayaking, fishing and swimming. The Bamberton Provincial Park is the perfect spot for families giving them a chance to swim, picnic and bird watch. The bay is popular with kayakers, sailing boats, swimmers and divers and has a reputation of being one of the best diving spots.
Mill Bay was founded in 1860s and then quickly became a commuter town of about 3200 people. This little town is located a short 30 km north of the vibrant provincial capital city of Victoria. This ocean side town is situated in south Cowichan valley and originally had lumber and milling as the primary businesses.
A short 10 minute drive from Mill Bay will bring you to the Arbutus Ridge, an active lifestyle community that features a top notch 18 hole golf course. Mill Bay medical center is dedicated to serving the community and keeping it healthy and happy. The region also has a veterinary hospital focused on providing best possible care to the residents and their animals.
Mill Bay has one of Canada’s best private academic institutes, Brentwood College. It is a co-educational boarding school that is focused on preparing the young minds for the challenges ahead in life. Interestingly, the campus of this school was destroyed by a fire in 1947 after which the school was rebuilt on the water-front. Nearby in Shawnigan Lake you will find one of Canada’s other preeminent private schools, Shawnigan Lake School.
It is a pretty seaside community that offers a lot for people considering moving to the beautiful town. The influx of tourists beckons to a possibility of this town becoming a town of urban activities soon.
